How to clean an email list for free

Broken and misspelled addresses bounce, hurt your sender reputation and waste send credits. Here’s what to clean before every import, and a free way to do it in one step.

Show me how to do it myself or use the tool below.

Example

Sarah@GMIAL.com

sarah@gmail.com

Add your file

A CSV or Excel file exported from your store, CRM, email tool or spreadsheet.

Want proof nothing is uploaded? Once this page has loaded, turn off your Wi-Fi. It still works.

What to clean before you send

  • Capitals and stray spaces: “ John.Doe@Gmail.com ” → john.doe@gmail.com
  • Common provider typos: gmial.com, hotmial.com, outlok.com, yahooo.com
  • Copy-paste leftovers: “mailto:”, angle brackets, trailing commas
  • Addresses that can’t work, like “john@gmail” or “n/a”
  • Test entries such as test@… or anything@example.com
  • Duplicates, which are only caught reliably after the steps above

In Excel or Google Sheets

Lowercase and trim an email in B2
=LOWER(TRIM(B2))

Then fix typos with Find & Replace, one domain at a time, and remove duplicates last.

Or clean it in one step

  1. Drop your list onto the box above (CSV or Excel).
  2. Under “Where is this file going?”, choose Mailchimp or Klaviyo to match their import format.
  3. Optionally turn on “Remove test entries” under More options, then download.
  • Typos fixed, invalid addresses counted (or cleared, if you prefer)
  • Duplicates removed after cleaning, so near-identical emails are caught
  • Free for up to 100 rows, and your list is never uploaded

Frequently asked questions

Does TidyRow check whether an inbox actually exists?

No. It checks that each address is correctly formed and fixes common typos, all in your browser. Checking whether an inbox exists would mean sending your list to a server, which TidyRow never does.

Is it really free?

Lists up to 100 rows are free. Bigger lists cost a one-time US$7, or US$15 for unlimited lists for 30 days.
